This five-week OR two-day nonprofit coaching class is an immersion course that focuses on the essential knowledge and skills organizations need to develop effective foundation proposals for their sustainable development goals (SDG). Participants will become familiar with the key components of a competitive grant proposal to a foundation and learn best practices for developing a well-organized budget and a targeted list of foundation prospects.


To accommodate diversity in learning styles, the sessions are grounded in project-based learning and includes a variety of individual writing time, small group discussions and activities, peer review, and large group lecture. At the conclusion of the Coaching Class participants will have completed:

  • Their 1-year Sustainable Development Goals
  • A Proposal Calendar

TWO REAL proposals to be submitted to foundations




Week 1 :Participants develop and define their mission, programs and need statement. Participants will define and develop their sustainable development goals.

Week 2 :Participants will craft their project descriptions and program evaluation. Participants will learn to research, approach and cultivate relationships with funders. Participants will use online sources to locate grant prospects.

Week 3 :Participants will develop a proposal calendar for their organization. Participants will complete their organization’s grant boilerplate and budget. Participants will learn the fundamentals of letters of inquiry.

Week 4 :Participants will use boilerplate to draft TWO letters of inquiry and proposals.

Week 5 :Participants will have completed TWO grant proposals to be submitted to foundations.


For the two-day sessions, participants will cover weeks 1-2 on day one  and weeks 3-5 on day 2.
